The health sector is facing a “triple whammy” effect due to climate change. Health services and infrastructure must cope with worsening climate events; while being responsible for responding to natural disasters; and also minimising environmental resource usage and reducing their carbon footprint. Environmental health practitioners and managers can seize this opportunity to usher in a new era, and become leaders in climate resilient and environmentally sustainable health systems. This presentation will show how our workforce can develop new skills while enhancing existing strengths; and engage with international climate change research and policy (such as the United Nations COP28 Health Programme).
