This paper describes how methodologies for evaluating the health impacts of transportation noise were applied to the consideration of noise from entertainment venues. Noise exposure forecasts were developed from modelling of venue noise and information on the distribution of dwellings in and surrounding the entertainment precinct. Established exposure-response functions were adapted to provide comparative estimates of rates of sleep disturbance, annoyance and cardiovascular disease risk. Appropriate disability weights were identified for each health outcome and concepts of DALYs and the value of a statistical life year were applied to enable estimation of the associated health costs for various policy options.
