Description

This tour will showcase the application of vegetated stormwater management solutions as part of creating a water sensitive city of Perth. These examples demonstrate how the conversion of traditional piped drainage systems basins into healthy ecosystems is able to address stormwater quality risks by providing ecological treatment to reduce contaminants and sediments, as well as result in multiple other benefits to the community including improved amenity, urban cooling, urban biodiversity and multifunctional open spaces. This tour will include the Point Fraser wetland on the edge of the Swan River that was constructed to treat poor quality stormwater before its discharge into the river, then travel to the multi-award winning Wharf St Community Smart Park in the City of Canning, which is  a converted drainage detention basin; to the WGV development in the City of Fremantle which includes a community bore, roadside biofilters, and rainwater reuse.
